Maren Detlefs (they/them) is the author of Growing Home, a queer cozy post-apocalyptic fantasy novel that explores themes of climate change and resilience.
Maren's work has been published in Altered Reality, Generic Magazine, the Fruitslice, and a short story anthology published by Bookshop Santa Cruz. They are currently querying their next novel, School of Queens, a sapphic YA murder mystery set at a haunted academy where elite students train in an internationally competitive strategy game.
They were born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, and the redwoods will always keep hold of their heart. There, they gained experience in marketing, communications, and content creation roles, notably interning for Lookout Santa Cruz, a Pulitzer Prize winning news outlet.
After high school, they headed to Boston where they are pursing a BFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College, and are on the production and acquisitions teams at Leonardo Audio and Nor'easter Publishing, a Cambridge-based audio production company and small press. In this role they work with publishers and authors of all experience levels to bring creative works to life through sound. Their background is in theater sound design, but have always loved literature, and audiobooks create a wonderful blend of these two artistic passions. They also dabble in freelance audiobook editing.
